If you want to customise your tablet the Android tablet would be the best choice. Both tablets offer IPS screens and are both are superb choices.

Anyone with a tight budget could go for the Google Nexus 7. The Kindle Fire HD and Nook HD are the only tablets that match the price tag. Apple like to stick with premium brand prices and Google tend to subsidise their Nexus products. The iPad Mini looks superb, but you can save as much as $129 if you go for the Google Nexus 7 and it has great looks. The 3G version comes with the price tag $299, while the LTE version of the iPad Mini is $459.

The iPad Mini has a superb design, however the Google Nexus 7 offers a soft touch back and the tablet is comfortable to hold and not ugly looking. It does weigh more however so you do have to take this into account.

The display of the Google Nexus 7 should beat the iPad Mini, but then Google and Asus cut some corners. The display isn’t as good as that of a 216ppi tablet and it looks the same as the 163ppi iPad Mini, you cannot tell any difference between the higher ppi. Both of the displays offer clear text and they have colours that are balanced. The iPad Mini does come with the size advantage and when playing videos and pictures it looks better.

This is due to the fact that Apple charge premium brand prices while Google focus on subsidies for their Nexus devices. There is no doubt that the iPad Mini has superb looks, but you could save around $129 if you go for the Google Nexus 7 and this is not bad looking. The iPad Mini is the winner for looks and design, but then the Google Nexus 7 does come with a soft touch back and the tablet is slim with a grip that is comfortable. The downside is that it weighs more.
