Comparing the Galaxy Note 8.0 and iPad Mini

Apple and Samsung have in recent years come to claim the majority share of the international tablet computer market. The latter has so far released its Tab and Note models, the difference between the two being the digital pen that comes with the latter.

Apple first released its iPad Mini last year, with the Samsung releasing its Galaxy Note 8.0 in March 2013, after the success of its previous Note 2 and Note 10.1 tablet computer models. The two models, the iPad Mini and the Galaxy Note 8.0, are markedly different, possessing little in common except for their size. A special assessment was recently released regarding the two products, with additional analysis provided regarding the Galaxy Note 8.0.

Perhaps one of the primary differences between the two is that the iPad Mini has an aluminum cover, compared to the Note whose covering is made out of plastic. Although the Note 8.0 is thicker, it is also lighter and weighs less, despite the fact that it has an 8 inch screen, compared to the iPad Mini, whose screen is 7.9 inches. In this respect the difference between the two products is minimal.

In terms of performance, specifications for both models are less than those of each company’s leading mobile phones, in addition to that of the Note 10.1 and the Apple iPad, which comes with a retina display. In this regard, the Note 8.0 is far more advanced than the iPad Mini, which comes with a quad core 1.6 gigahertz processer, in addition to 2 gigabytes of RAM, whereas the iPad Mini comes with a dual core 1 gigahertz processor and 512 megabytes of RAM. In terms of speed, the Note can therefore be considered faster. The Note 8.0 comes with either a 16 or 32 gigabyte memory size capacity, with the option to purchase a smart card for the purpose of upgrading to 64 gigabytes. The iPad Mini comes with a 16, 32, or 64 gigabyte memory card, without the option to upgrade to any higher level.

Dan Haren on his cutter usage, rough start to the season - Washington Post

After his third start of the season, a dreary outing in Miami in which he could notch only one out in the fifth inning, Dan Haren sat in the clubhouse after talking to reporters and stared at the back of his locker for several minutes. Something just wasn’t adding up.

The four days after an encouraging second start against the White Sox , he felt great, including on Tuesday. His fastball velocity sat between 89 and 91 miles per hour, a clear sign he is healthy. His stuff was moving well, according to his own assessment and that of Manager Davey Johnson. But he allowed seven runs, three of them earned. He has given up 26 hits, five of them home runs, in 13 1/3 innings. Haren, signed to a one-year, $13-million deal as the final piece to help put the Nationals over the top, has averaged 4 1/3 innings per start. It has all weighed on him.

Haren, 32, isn’t one to watch much video of his starts, especially hoping to avoid negative reinforcement. But he watched Tuesday’s start twice. He even pulled up footage on his iPad of his starts during his stellar 2011 season and last season, looking to see what worked so well then. Haren’s velocity so far this season has been the same as the 2011 season, in which he posted a 3.17 ERA and finished seventh in the American League Cy Young voting, and he wants to return to what worked so well then. He noticed a few minor trends in studying the film.
