Customer Reviews

Predictably Remarkable. The best tablet in its 10" class, but still no 7" version!
I was able to secure the new iPad at our local Apple store this morning, as ours wasn't too busy, but I also got to spend a little time with a review model beforehand. In any case, I'll take you hands-on with the new model, plus I'll share my experience from my past two years of iPad ownership altogether, especially for those who haven't yet had an iPad to call their own. I'll also reveal a treasure trove of info on how you can legitimately download tons of quality apps and games for free, in hopes of making this the most helpful iPad review on Amazon! My review tends to run long, so I've organized information by section, with headings, to make it more helpful for those just looking for specific info. For example, see the heading "Downloading Apps and Games" for the info on obtaining free apps and games!First, let's quickly cover what's new, and what each means for you:+ Retina Display - twice the resolution of the iPad 2, at 2048 x 1536 pixels...
Good, but ...
I've been a big iPad fan and was waiting anxiously for the third generation to come out. I bought the original iPad, and when the 2 came out, I happily sold the 1 and upgraded. I was thrilled with the thinner, lighter and improved iPad 2. So naturally, when word came out that the third one was about to be released in March 2012, I was right on board to buy one. Sold my 2 and preordered the 3 from Apple the day it was released.I was hoping the third gen wouldn't be noticibly thicker and heavier than the 2, but unfortunately it was. I could definitely tell the difference when reading ebooks, which I do a lot. I couldn't really tell any difference between the speed and clarity of the 3, but to be fair, I didn't compare the two models side by side. I've no doubt the 3 is superior in this regard. I don't use the cameras, so don't care about this since I have a very nice digital camera for that. The one thing about the third generation iPad that really...
Should you upgrade from iPad 2? (updated with Verizon snafu)
This review is for iPad 2 owners trying to decide whether to upgrade. It also might be helpful for people deciding between buying a "new iPad" and an iPad 2 (which is now just 399, 100 bucks cheaper than the cheapest "new iPad").I was perfectly happy with my iPad 2, a wifi-only model with 32gb. When Apple announced the new iPad, I typed up a long list of reasons why I shouldn't buy it. And then I bought one anyway. (I'll be giving my iPad 2 to my parents.)You've probably already read up on the new iPad and know the list of new features it has, and how the specs compare to the iPad 2's specs. But comparing specs on paper is different than comparing the actual experience of using the two products, and the experience matters more than the specs. I can tell you which of those features, at least to me, really makes the experience of using the new iPad better. And there's only one: the display.I do a lot of reading on the iPad, and this is where...

Logitech Ultrathin iPad Keyboard Review

Some other notes – Logitech claims battery life of six months (!) assuming two hours of typing a day (and assuming you remember to slide the power switch off when done). Charging is handled via microUSB and bluetooth pairing is as simple as expected, nothing really to report there.

I really, really like this but recognize it’s not the right choice for everyone given the caveats above. For example, my mom and wife need a more protective case with multiple viewing angles. And while my mom does need a keyboard, I suspect Melissa won’t very often given how they use their iPads. The white iPad 3 above is my wife’s – we’ll probably be picking up a 32GB black model for me shortly (and unloading my 13″ MBA) along with this model keyboard… which should look even slicker with a black iPad.

For those seeking a full sized, yet compact, Bluetooth keyboard to use in conjunction with an existing case, this Amazon Basics model is a solid option at a good price.

Tech review: keyboards for the iPad

When the iPad first came out, it was pooh-poohed as an oversized version of the iPod touch, a mere fancy underpowered toy for tech enthusiasts and Apple fans.

But here we are, several years later, and the world’s most popular tablet computer is shaping up to be a decent replacement for a laptop. Though not as powerful as a desktop or laptop, the iPad often feels just as fast because it runs efficiently, letting you use only one app at a time. And hard drive storage is less of an obstacle these days, with cloud computing services like Dropbox or Sugarsync and Apple’s own iCloud storing our data online.

I have been coming around to the idea that most of the stuff I do on a laptop or a PC — surfing the Web, writing for the Taipei Times, using Facebook, organizing photos — can be done on an iPad. Safari and YouTube have got Web browsing and videos covered. For word processing, I ditched Microsoft Word long ago for a writer-friendly text editor (Writeroom and iAWriter are both decent apps to try). Facebook’s app does a decent job, and the iPad’s own Photos app has rudimentary editing capabilities. (Heck, now you can even get Adobe Photoshop for iOS and Android).

Looking for a iPad review from someone who also owns a iPhone?

Hi i am looking for a iPad review from someone who owns a iPhone aswell
is it worth getting one?
i have got a iPhone is their any point me getting a iPad?

The iPad is pretty cool, my friend has one. If you're going to get one I would wait for a new one to come out though. If you buy it now you will probably regret not waiting for a new one.

Here is a thorough review: http://www.ubergizmo.

How would you review your Apple iPad 1 year later?

The first generation Apple iPad went on sale April 3, 2010, just over a year ago. How would you review it now? Has it lived up to your expectations? Has your iPad held up to everyday use? Do you feel like you paid too much for it, was it priced right,

I reordered a G3 iPad back in March. It is now my primary web surfing tool, TV/Netficks watching, and email tool. I use it at least once a day. It's light weight makes it an ideal travel companion when I don't want to work from the Blackberry or lug around

Tweetbot for iPad Review

Since its release two years ago, the iPad has always needed a better Twitter client. Tweetbot for iPad is the better Twitter app I have been waiting for, and it sets a new standard that future Twitter clients will have to be compared with.

From a Twitter power user’s perspective, the iPad came at an interesting point in the history of the platform. Twitter clients for iPhone and Mac had reached a kind of maturity and complexity that enabled users like me to demand a certain grade of efficiency from new Twitter apps for the tablet; Twitter itself was beefing up its first-party app portfolio with acquisitions and a fresh strategy based on making the official clients the go-to apps for the average Twitter user. Some notable Twitter clients came out on the iPad throughout 2010, including the excellent Twitterrific, which  we have reviewed several times on MacStories.

In 2010, Twitter also released its very own application for the iPad; developed by Loren Brichter, the man behind Tweetie, Twitter for iPad launched to a (still ongoing) controversy as to whether iPad interfaces should adopt more courageous designs in displaying information and sections to the user. Taking the best features of Twitter for iPhone (fluidity, clean design, pull to refresh) and mixing them up with  new interaction schemes such as panels and pinch gestures, Twitter for iPad collected rave reviews and considerable disapprovals because of its interesting use of classic Twitter elements (vertical timeline, separate section for Mentions) alongside a new model for driving users’ taps around the app in the form of sliding panels, modal menus, and popovers. You can read more about it in  my original review from 2010.
